Logic tells us that contradictory propositions cannot both be true. This law has new principles in cyberspace, where true might be false, where what you see is not always what you get and where the person you are talking to could be a group of people or even a robot. Facebook now tries to guess how much of the news you are reading is not faked, and cybersecurity companies talk about “zero trust” technologies suggesting that even the traffic of an internal network and the identity of its users cannot be trusted anymore, not even a tiny bit.
ITBN celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2019. During the years more than 22.000 attendees have witnessed the incredible transformation of cybersecurity going from fighting spam to identify faces. For the next 15 years, I envision an even more challenging path, a cyberworld where understanding the context will become the norm, where people will evaluate more information before they decide to take action. By looking into this future at ITBN, we discover together how we can use advanced technologies like orchestration, cloud, data analysis, and AI to understand the context of data, identity, disinformation and eventually ourselves. And maybe, in the process, we will realize how we could tell the truth from a lie in cyberspace.
